I don’t understand why some people don’t wear helmets while biking in a city, a city with horrible drivers, extra-long buses that make suspect turns and have ridiculous “should be illegal” blind spots, and the occasional crazy person running into the street in the middle of traffic. It’s the simplest way to protect yourself.
I sound like my dad but really, isn’t it worth it?
Also, is this an image thing? Do hipsters hate helmets because they’re not cool? I’m puzzled. Yes, I remember getting annoyed when my mom would bug me to wear a helmet riding around our beach community, but I was 11. Also, and I know this shouldn’t matter but seriously, those were sandy, speed-bumped, 15mph speed limit roads. This is a city. With really horrible drivers and, yes, I know they should be watching for bikers, but a lot of them don’t. Because, again, they are really really bad drivers and I have no idea why anyone let them have a license in the first place.
No, it isn’t fair that idiots have licenses, but since you can’t do much about that, at least do yourself a favor and wear a freaking helmet.
I cannot stress the fact that this city has some of the worst drivers I’ve ever seen. I mean they’re really bad. Worst than any state in New England. ETA: And the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT).
